THE foundation piling work had been completed on the first three blocks of the 2012 Olympic Village in East London, the Delivery Authority has announced.
Construction is now under way with the first two tower cranes erected on site at Stratford (pictured) before work on the superstructure begins by the end of the year.
There has been speculation that talks are taking place with the Qatar authorities for investment in the Olympic Village.
But 2012 Olympics authority this week denied the speculation, insisting that construction and infrastructure is being paid for by the National Lottery, the Department for Culture and Sport, the Mayor of London and the London Development Agency.
