AN ELECTRICITY substation that will help power the 2012 Olympics has won a Royal Institute of British Architects award.
The substation, which was switched on in October to keep power flowing across the massive construction site in East London, was named Commercial & Industrial Building of the Year. It was also shortlisted for Project of the Year by the prestigious institute.
The EDF substation will distribute electricity across the Olympic Park through 70 miles of cables.
The 240ft-long building was the first completed structure on the massive site and already supplies electricity to the 2012 Stadium and Stratford City construction sites and its part of East London's 'legacy' after the 2012 Games.
