The New Year brings the chance for thousands of youngsters to compete in indoor sport at the Olympic Park for the first time ever.

Three events in the 2014 London Youth Games’ calendar are being staged at Stratford’s Copper Box Arena, it has been confirmed this week.

The venue, where the 2012 Olympic handball, modern pentathlon fencing and Paralympic goalball were held, is now hosting Badminton schools’ qualifiers on February 25, sportshall athletics qualifiers on March 4 and Handball finals on June 22.

London Youth Games chief executive Russell Findlay said: “Taking the Games to the Olympic Park provides the competitive environment that motivates youngsters to train all year-round and fulfil their potential.”

The 2014 Games are set to be the biggest in their 37-year history, featuring 81 competitions in 30 sports over 41 days. They also feature the biggest Para-Games competition for disabled youngsters in athletics, swimming, indoor rowing, wheelchair basketball, football, boccia, tennis and kayaking.
