A water theatre performance choreographed by a former Olympic synchronised swimmer will take place at Becontree Heath Leisure Centre next Wednesday.

Live traditional music will accompany the show by Balbir Singh Dance Company which was originally created for the 2012 Olympic Games Cultural Olympiad.

It will feature professional dancers, elite swimmers and BTec dance students from Robert Clack school, while pupils from Valence Primary School will also take part in the matinee performance.

The show will include a combination of western contemporary dance and Kathak, a form of Indian classical dance originating from ancient northern India.

Balbir, who directs the show, said: “There is a strong community and outreach programme that accompanies the work, which will continue after the performance.

“From the programme many community performers from Barking and Dagenham and surrounding areas will get the opportunity to get involved in the final performance as dancers, or synchronised swimmers.”

Tickets are available at the leisure centre and cost £5 (concessions £3, under 16s £1). The matinee open dress rehearsal will take place at 1.30pm and the evening performance will start at 7pm.
