National League: Eastleigh 1 Leyton Orient 1

Macauley Bonne’s second-half goal helped Leyton Orient make it four games without a defeat in the National League with a 1-1 draw at Eastleigh, but it was not enough to prevent them falling off top spot in the division.

Wins for Salford City and Wrexham, away to Barnet and at home Hartlepool United respectively, sent the two Northern-based clubs back up to first and second in the table while the O’s dropped to third on a full Tuesday night schedule.

Boss Justin Edinburgh was forced to make one change to the team which thrashed Havant & Waterlooville 4-0 on Saturday.

Sam Ling dropped out with a knock, received at the weekend, and was replaced by James Brophy while Matt Harrold returned to the bench.

The opening goal of the game arrived in the 36th minute and much to O’s frustration, it occurred from a set-piece.

Mark Yeates’ corner found Spitfires full-back Josh Hare and he headed past Dean Brill to make it three goals in his last four league games.

It remained 1-0 until the break on a cold, chilly night, but Orient managed to get back on level terms shortly after the hour mark at Ten Acres.

Myles Judd got forward well and his cross was converted by Bonne for his 12th goal of the campaign.

Both sides pushed for another goal in the final half an hour in Hampshire, but no third goal was forthcoming and O’s had to settle for a point.

The result makes it four games unbeaten in the division and Orient will look to make it five at AFC Fylde on Saturday.
