Turning 80 is a time that many people choose to slow down and relax - but not Sir Ian McKellen.

The actor will be celebrating his milestone birthday next year by taking a new show to 80 venues around the country - and will be kicking off proceedings at The Space on the Isle of Dogs.

Sir Ian, who lives in Tower Hamlets, explained: “The Space is my local theatre and the first stop on my tour of London with a new solo show involving Tolkien, Shakespeare, others and you – the audience.

“I am a patron of The Space and have been very fond of it ever since I was involved with saving this delightful Wee Free Church as an old and treasured asset. See you there!”

All profits from the shows will go to charity, with those from The Space’s two events, taking place on Friday, January 25 and Saturday, January 26, going to St Paul’s Arts Trust. Tickets are available from ianonstage.co.uk
