This week is National Hate Crime Awareness Week, which encourages people, organisations and charities to come together to stand against hate crime.
Over the last few years we’ve witnessed a concerning rise in hate crime, especially immediately after the EU referendum.
The number of hate crimes soared by 57 per cent between 2014 – 15 to 2016 – 17, with the majority of cases motivated by racial discrimination.
It is critical that the Metropolitan Police Service gets the resources needed to fight hate crime as well as other crimes.
Whether it’s Islamophobia, racism, antisemitism, or other forms of prejudice and intolerance, we must continue to fight these injustices and work hard to protect all communities.
