The energetic midfielder, who was often praised for his exceptional work rate in training, has ended his time at Brisbane Road

Leyton Orient have confirmed midfielder Freddy Moncur has left the club by mutual consent.

The 21-year-old has been in and around the first-team squad for the past three seasons, but has never been able to establish himself as a regular despite working under a succession of managers.

Moncur departs Brisbane Road after making 11 appearances for the club with nine of them occurring during the 2016/17 campaign.

After progressing through the academy system, the Harlow-born youngster was handed a third-year scholar deal for the 2015/16 season.

Moncur made his O’s and professional debut on September 1 2015 after coming on as a substitute at Luton Town in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Then-boss Ian Hendon handed the youngster another chance in the FA Cup months later, but his sacking coincided with the one-time West Ham United youth failing to make another appearance that season.

Nevertheless, Moncur signed his first professional contract with the club in the summer of 2016.

He had to wait until the end of February to feature for Orient again and when he did finally get a run of games in the O’s first-team, he was often played out of position or brought on as a substitute and therefore not able to show his true potential.

Moncur ended up leaving the club last summer, but was offered a new deal at the end of July.

Once again he was unable to force a way into Steve Davis’ side and found himself out on loan again.

New boss Justin Edinburgh included Moncur on the bench on a couple of occasions, but the former academy graduate has made the decision to move on.

It is a shame to see the son of ex-Hammers star John leave Orient, but with Craig Clay, Alex Lawless, Ebou Adams plus Henry Ochieng all ahead of him in the pecking order, it makes sense for all parties.

The motivation for Moncur now will be to try and follow in the footsteps of Harry Beautyman – another player to progress through the O’s academy and not make it in the first-team at Brisbane Road.

Since leaving Orient, Beautyman has played for the likes of Peterborough United and Northampton Town and has recently signed for Sutton United, who are trying to secure promotion to the Football League.

The O’s have also allowed Sam Sargeant, Charley Barker and Andrew Camilo-Tayaca to leave on loan.

Sargeant has linked up with Aron Pollock and Ruel Sotiriou at Bostik Premier outfit Leatherhead while Barker and Camilo-Tayaca have signed for Northwood of the Evo-Stik Division One East.
