They join an already impressive list of headliners across the 10-day festival (starting May 25) including Bjork, The National, LCD Soundsystem, The xx and Nick Cave.

The alt-rock band, who won British Breakthrough Act at the Brits in 2016, lead the charge at one of three “APE Presents” gigs on the first weekend in June.

Tickets for APE Presents…Catfish and the Bottlemen go on sale at 9am on Friday.

Their June 1 show comes on the heels of a four-day community-focused festival with comedy, kids’ activities, outdoor cinema and locally sourced food and drink.

“This is going to be a massive night,” says Van McCann, lead singer and guitarist with Catfish and the Bottlemen. “It doesn’t get much better than 40,000 people outdoors screaming every word you’ve written back at you. That’ll do us nicely.’

They will share the stage with support from similarly famed Blossoms, who are currently holed up in the studio, working to follow up their number one, Mercury Music Prize nominated debut album.

Joining them are pop-rockers The Hunna, punk band Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes, Californians The Neighbourhood, and The Amazons, who were named as ones to watch in the BBC’s Sound of 2017 list.

Matt Thomson from The Amazons said: “We’re excited to join a great line up of music across the festival at All Points East in May. We have a lot of memories of Victoria Park festivals in our formative years which were a massive inspiration for us.”

All Points East replaces Field Day and Lovebox from this year. Tower Hamlets Council gave promoter Goldenvoice the run of the park after being impressed by their pitch for a free community festival bookended by six days of live music from both UK and international stars.

Lovebox had taken place in Victoria Park since 2005 and Field Day since 2008.

Goldenvoice has the exclusive right to stage big festivals there for the next five years.

Tickets go on sale at 9am on Friday from allpointseastfestival.com, but readers who live in Hackney or Tower Hamlets get an exclusive pre-sale 24 hours early. Pick up Thursday’s paper for details.
