London Remixed festival is back for two days at Bethnal Green’s Richmix

A celebration of emerging musical talent and genres are being staged at the centre in Bethnal Green Road on Friday and Saturday nights with 25 bands and DJs on four stages.

London Remixed festival is showcasing “the best in Latin Grooves, Afro beats, Tropical Bass, Vintage-Remix, Desert Remix Balkan Beats, Urban Roots, Acoustic Soundclash and Brass Band Remix”.

It aims to “kick Global London into the future”. Festival organisers have supported hundreds up-and-coming bands over the years, including household names such as Florence and the Machine, MUSE and Mumford and Sons, who m ade theirt debuts at Richmix.

This year’s headliners include ‘Gypsy folk-rock’ group Holy Moly & The Crackers. The Folk Ghetto stage will also host Blues guitarist phenomenon John Fairhurst who Continental Drift’s own Chris Tofu describes as “the Wigan Jimi Hendrix”.

Friday once again hosts free Remix workshops with Community Music, plus the infamous Remix speed-dating sessions, following last year’s success at the Richmix centre.

Saturday night’s headline slot on the Tropicarnival stage hosted by Ghanaian KOG is Latin & Cuban fusion Wara, a six-piece girl-fronted band with backgrounds spanning Cuba, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile, Spain and Germany as well as the UK.

KOG also welcomes French artist Siska, Afro-funk and Ethiojazz eleven piece Agbeko

and Samba Junglist DJ Hiphoppapotamus.

Others include Wara, Agbeko, Siska, Subajah, DJ Hiphoppapotamus, Polka Club, The Baghdaddies, El Jehaz, Buffo’s Wake, The Odd Beats, Full Tilt Collective, Penny Metal, Folk Ghetto, Holy Moly & The Crackers, John Fairhurst, Young Waters, Ben Somers String Band, DJ Hot Bread and Silent Disco & Disco Lift.
