A country fair comes to East London’s famous Chrisp Street Market on Sunday, but with animals from an urban farm and a stall selling cockney pie’n’mash.
Poplar’s annual Chrisp Street Festival has funfair rides and children’s games like tug o’war, skittles, splat the rat and welly wanging.
But the big attraction for youngsters is likely to be the animals loaned by Vauxhall city farm, like the fury creatures from last year’s country fair.
The mums and dads and grans can browse a craft market and enter a cake in the Great Poplar Bake-off.
Then perhaps they might grab their dancing shoes and trip the light fantastic in a ceilidh extravaganza with The Muckers band performing three half-hour sessions at 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
No fair in Docklands would be complete, of course, without a cockney East End pie’n’mash stand and a tea tent for a brew.
The late summer Sunday fair from 11am to 4pm is organised every year by Poplar Harca housing organisation, one of the East End’s big social landlords and community regeneration agencies.
