A ukulele orchestra is calling on all uke players to join them in a Red Nose Day flashmob outside London Liverpool Street station.
So far 100 players have agreed to treat commuters and shoppers to renditions of Monty Python classic Always Look on the Bright Side of Life and the Banana Boat Song (Day O) at 6.30pm on Friday.
Players will be led by one-man band and ukelele player Jake Rodrigues with giant chord sheets displayed for anyone who wants to turn up and join in.
Event organiser and owner of Shoreditch ukulele shop The Duke of Uke, Matthew Reynolds, said: “It’s all about having a bit of fun to raise money for a great cause and this year we’re thrilled to be taking part.
“With help, we can brighten Londoners’ evenings and at the same time, help save lives.”
Fellow organiser Tom Milsom from the Cheshire Street store added that this is the first time the orchestra has organsied such an event, which aims to attract 200 strummers and raise £500.
“It’s going to be good fun. The ukulele had a big boom in popularity in the 1950s and it’s coming back again.”
Matthew added: “This is a great opportunity to meet fellow players, have a good time, and be a part of an amazing nationwide fundraising effort.”
