There’s more food than you can shake a wooden spoon at with TV’s Great British Bake Off rolling up in London’s East End at the Old Truman Brewery tomorrow and the weekend.

It is part of a three-day Foodies Festival which opens in Brick Lane with Bake Off stars, top chefs and a winter wonderland of culinary treats.

“Frangipani” inventor Ian Cumming, finalist in the hit BBC series, bakes his way to the festival tomorrow.

“I’ll be in the Cake & Bake theatre with my ‘frangipani’ tart with almond sponge cake-filling,” he says. “I make them with home-made moulds and experiment with herbs from my garden.”

He was demonstrating frangipan baking and somehow called in a “frangipani” and it caught on and went viral.

Ian was snapped sharing his frangipan with professional ‘burlesque’ baker Charlotte White (above), who has cooked up a vintage 1920s outfit for the festival.

Bake Off champion Nadiya Hussain turns up on Sunday for her fans, after being watched by millions of viewers winning in October when she turned out an icing cake like looking the dead spit of a peacock.

She promises: “I’ll be making some of my favourite festive bakes, which the audience can recreate at home and ‘wow’ their friends and family.”

She also plans to mooch around the artisan market that’s selling cheeses, chutneys, jams, oils, biscuits and spirits.

Other features of Foodies Festival Christmas include cooking demos from top chefs swapping their aprons for Santa hats, a Pudding hall, Street Food courtyard and an Elfs’ cookery school with its fun workshops for children.

A Vegan area offers vegan, veggie and gluten-free goodies including ‘street’ food, bakes, condiments, beers and wines.

A Drinks theatre with its “spirits of Christmas” offers gin lovers Christmas cocktail master-classes, while wine experts Charles Metcalfe and Neil Philips can help you match wines with festive flavours and beer expert Melissa Cole champions craft beers as an alternative to festive champagne.

For those who can pack away the goodies, there’s even a Christmas pie-eating contest to help you add a few pounds around the waist.
