A children’s nursery was transformed into a Christmas grotto in east London complete with presents for all the children after an 11th-hour operation by teams of elves.
The volunteer elves turned up from Lloyds Bank and swept into Barnardo’s Wetherell nursery near Victoria Park to convert one of the rooms into a white winter wonderland in just a few hours.
Nursery managers visited Barclays in Canary Wharf four days later and returned with presents for each child from a wish list which had been sent to the bank with names and ages of all the children at the nursery at Iveagh Close, in South Hackney.
“We were amazed at everything the elves managed to do in such a short time,” Barnardo’s nursery manager Rebecca Polsom said. “They put so much thought into finding the right presents for the children. It’s given the toddlers a fantastic Christmas.”
The presents were donated by staff at Barclays and given out following the festive makeover by the elves from Lloyds.
