Jack Payne believes the home fans have a key part to play this weekend

Leyton Orient midfielder Jack Payne has praised the support of the home fans at Brisbane Road and backed them to roar the team on to get another three points this Saturday when Accrington Stanley travel down to east London.

The O’s form in front of their own supporters has been good with four wins from their opening seven games this year.

Ian Hendon’s men have also picked up points against Oxford United and Wycombe Wanderers from losing positions.

Payne believes the support Orient receive from their fans is key and believes they will have a big part to play this weekend when Stanley visit.

The 23-year-old delivered a man of the match performance the last time the O’s played at home as they fought back from two down to Oxford to salvage a 2-2 draw.

Although they face another strong side on Saturday, the Peterborough United loanee is confident of giving Orient fans more success.

Payne said: “We know when the fans get behind us it is like they are our 12th man.

“It really pushes us on because you know as soon as we get a chance they will be up and it does give you a little bit more confidence to play.

“I think that is what we need to do, we need to get the crowd with us early on and start playing, expressing ourselves and we’ll be fine against Accrington.”

Not many would have expected to see John Coleman’s Stanley up in the play-off positions with 15 matches played this season.

They finished 17th last year, but have performed well so far, winning seven of their league games to sit a point behind the O’s.

Payne is not taking anything for granted even if he expects a win.

He added: “Accrington are a good side otherwise they wouldn’t be where they are in the table.

“But we believe in the group we have here and believe in what we are going to achieve this year so we have got no worries.”

Orient go into the match off the back of a 1-0 victory at Morecambe after Payne scored his first goal for the club in very fortuitous circumstances.

Even though the winner was quite lucky, Hendon’s side did have some more chances to get a second and the victory at the seaside was deserved and much-needed.

Payne admitted a point on the road probably would have been a good result, but after drawing with Luton Town 1-1 a couple of days earlier, they were desperate to get back to winning ways.

And they will now look to make it back-to-back triumphs on Saturday, he added: “We fancy ourselves against anyone in this league, we are not going to lie.

“Especially at home as well when the fans get behind us. It makes it so much easier when they are backing us. It does help when it is like that at Brisbane Road so we will be full of confidence.”
