Sporting Bengal United boss Anwar Uddin praised Tunde Adewunmi after his hat-trick earned them more success in the FA Vase at the weekend.

The Essex Senior League outfit scored six times at the Mile End Stadium to see off rivals Southall in an eight-goal thriller.

Adewunmi was the star of the show, scoring just before half time and then netting twice in the second period to confirm their spot in the second round.

Abdi Mohamed bagged a brace with Yacine Teladjati scoring too in the 6-2 success and Bengal will now host Sleaford Town on November 21 in the next round.

Uddin said: “I took Tunde with me to Maldon & Tiptree when I was assistant there and he started like a house on fire.

“I left and I thought he would carry on and do really well. I know what he is like and he went to Heybridge Swifts and Barkingside and it just didn’t happen for him.

“But I gave him a call and said come and play some football for me and I know what he is all about.

“It isn’t just his goals, it is his hold up play and all round presence. I am delighted for him because it isn’t always easy to drop down a league.

“Sometimes it is more about the environment and one of the key components of Sporting is that everyone that comes here, I want them to leave a better player and a better person.”

Adewunmi will look to continue his rich rein of form this evening when Bengal face Southend Manor in the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy.

But Uddin has admitted he will use the second round tie to give some of the younger members of his squad game time.

Even though he will be making chances, the former Dagenham & Redbridge captain is confident in the ability of his players.

“We have had Southend Manor watched but the game is a good opportunity to utilise the squad we have got,” added Uddin.

“I am trying to develop players and give people a run of games. There is no point having a squad of 25 people if you are not going to use them and they only way they can improve is by playing.

“All the players that have come in to replace some of our injured players this season have done an excellent job, but the only reason that has been the case is because we have used them beforehand.

“I am confident in every single member of my squad. We have a type of football we like to play so it is more about the group rather than individuals. If one person is missing then somebody steps in and we are like a machine.”
