Mile End Stadium club seek successful conclusion to season
Tower Hamlets finish their Essex Senior League campaign this weekend with a clash against champions Haringey Borough and player-coach Ajay Ashnike is looking to spoil the party for the north Londoners.
The Mile End Stadium club lost 3-0 to Hullbridge last night (Wednesday), having also played on Monday and Saturday as they enjoy a busy end to the 2014/15 season.
Kobie Ambrose’s goal earned a 1-1 draw with Basildon United at the weekend, but Eton Manor beat them 3-0 on Monday.
Tower Hamlets’ current focus is on facing Haringey at Coles Park on Saturday, Ashnike said: “Obviously they’re champions, but we need to try and get three points.
“We want to spoil the party, they will want to win, but we also want to get the victory.
“It will be a good occasion for us and it would be great to beat the champions. We might put a few youngsters out, but it will be interesting to see how some of them cope because we are not looking at mid-table next season, or bottom of the table, we want to be near the top.”
Ashnike revealed he has already been speaking to players about getting them involved with the Mile End club for the 2015/16 campaign.
Tower Hamlets are hoping for much better and will look to replicate their fourth place finish from last season, Ashnike adding: “Last year we did really well and we were looking to follow that up, but we lost a lot of players and things obviously haven’t gone to plan.
“Next season we’re looking to win the league if we can get some of them back.
“I’ve been talking to a couple of them and they want to return, so if we can add that experience to the youngsters we already have, we will have a chance of success next year.”
Ashnike revealed he and the rest of the management team will sit down at the end of the current season and plan what is best to do for next year.
He added: “I am still a Tower Hamlets player, but football is a funny game, so we will just wait and see what happens.
“As soon as the season is finished we’re going to sit down and see who the best man to take the club forward is. We’re all a family here and we all want Tower Hamlets to do well. That is the most important thing.”
Sporting Bengal ended their season with a 4-1 loss at Sawbridgeworth, to finish bottom of the table.
