A recruitment drive has started in east London for more home carers to meet a growing demand for the elderly wanting to remain at home longer.
A company providing care to people in their own homes wants to hire 50 carers in the year ahead for its growing business.
The company, Home Instead Senior Care, is battling to cope with the number of calls it is getting from OAPs or their families at its Canary Wharf branch.
“Our business has grown as a result of more and more calls from people looking for home care,” Home Instead’s Fahima Khatun explained. “This has allowed us to expand quickly and create these jobs in the area.
“Care-givers are ‘super heroes’ — everyday people providing companionship, preparing meals or helping with daily living routines, making a difference to the lives of the elderly.”
Home Instead is providing training at its offices at Tiller Road in Millwall, on the Isle of Dogs, for people interested in a career in the growing Care sector who have no previous experience.
The demand is reflected in a national trend with a UK Commission for Employment report estimating Britain needing to recruit another half-million home carers by 2022 because of the ageing population.
