Business bosses in east London are being urged to get their ‘swing thing’ going so they don’t make fools of themselves at the office Christmas party.
The Swing Patrol enterprise is running weekly dance sessions at two East End club venues showing the right steps to get the staff office party going with a swing.
Bethnal Green’s legendary Backyard Comedy club in Cambridge Heath Road is holding lessons every Monday, while the Juno in Shoreditch High Street has them on Sundays.
The secret is ‘themed’ parties, dressing as gangsters and molls, donning Second World War uniforms or just putting on vintage glad rags.
Swing Patrol got swinging after a successful stab at TV’s Dragon’s Den when entrepreneur Scott Culpit, 46, got a thumbs up from Duncan Bannatyne and Deborah Meaden.
“Bannantyne wanted to do it — Meaden does it,” Cupit says. “If Swing Patrol is good enough for these top business people, it’s good enough for the workers.
“There’s no excuse for anyone dancing like David Brent” — Ricky Gervais’s office middle-manager character in TV’s The Office with his self-delusions.
Meaden has a 20 per cent stake in Cupit’s company after investing £65,000 in the venture.
Tycoon Duncan Bannatyne is also author of ‘Anyone Can Do It’.
Scott Culpitt insists “no dancing experience is required” for his dance sessions, and adds: “It’s great for small businesses.”
The two venues are holding Swing Patrol parties and dance lessons throughout December, for bosses to show off their moves at the office party. Tickets for Swing Patrol Party sessions are £17 at The Backyard and £24.50 at Juno.
