Travel across Tower Hamlets is likely to be affected today as the mammoth sporting event rolls through the borough.

Here’s the information you need to get by.

Buses affected in the East End are the 15, 25, 100, 108, 277, 339, D3 and D8.

Some stops may also be shunted or even suspended.

The Underground, DLR and other services will keep running throughout the event, but stations along the route are expected to be busy with spectators arriving to watch.

This will probably apply to stations such as East India, Blackwall, Poplar, Westferry, Limehouse, Shadwell, Tower Gateway, Tower Hill and Monument.

Road closures in Tower Hamlets begin after the Monday morning peak at 10am with barriers in place to make sure cyclists and spectators are safe.

Businesses are being contacted this week and advised to plan deliveries and commuting journeys in advance.

Pedestrians and cyclists will be able to cross the route at designated crossings, where marshals will check people can cross safely.

Once the roads are closed, cyclists will not be able to ride on the route roads.

The closures include the A1261 Aspen Way through Blackwall and Poplar, past Canary Wharf, into the A1203 Limehouse Link tunnel to The Highway, through Shadwell, passing St Katharine’s Docks to Tower Hill, skimming the Tower of London heading for The City along Lower Thames Street to Victoria Embankment, Westminster and finally The Mall.

Tower Bridge is being closed because of the route crossing Tower Hill.

So, too, are Southwark Bridge and Westminster Bridge for most of the day.

The roads reopen once the Tour has passed through—TfL expects to reopen them by 6pm.

Some roads surrounding the route will also be affected and parking restrictions will apply in some areas, drivers are warned. Vehicles won’t be able to cross the route while the roads are closed, though local access will be maintained for as long as possible.

Emergency access will be kept at all times. Pedestrian access to properties also remains unaffected.

Transport for London has been running drop-in sessions to help residents and businesses plan ahead. The last was yesterday morning (Weds), at the Docklands Sailing Centre on the Isle of Dogs.
