The founder of boy-band JLS made waves in Canary Wharf by adding his name to WaterAid’s stunning wall of water for UN World Water Day.
Pop-star Oritsé, who has seen WaterAid’s work in Uganda, was joined by a class of school children from Torridon Junior School in Lewisham.
His name was displayed on the UK’s first ever interactive Aquascript - a 10m by 5m flowing wall of words revealed in cascading water, as a “watergraph” displaying the names of those who have pledged to support the charity’s campaign for clean drinking water for everyone by 2030.
Oritsé said: “In the UK we take water for granted, so it’s hard to imagine that one in seven children around the world have no choice but to rely on water so dirty it could kill them.
“In Uganda I met kids who regularly missed school after getting sick from drinking dirty water, or dropped out altogether because there was nowhere safe and private to go to the toilet.”
He added: “It’s a tragedy that children are missing out on their education because they don’t have access to water and sanitation, which is why I’m proud to support WaterAid’s mission to bring safe, clean water to everyone everywhere by 2030.”
