Beavers, Cubs and Scouts have been asssisting the Royal British Legion in selling poppies on the Isle of Dogs.

Members of the 2nd East London group worked in shifts to spend their half term assisting Legion representatives in the running of the stall in ASDA, as well as helping out in the evenings during term time.

The partnership enabled young people to interact with war veterans on a regular basis.

Ben Morante, 11, was one of the scouts who took part. He said: “I was with a soldier who was in the war and he had so many stories for us. I really enjoyed selling the poppies.”

Over 60 young people and leaders also took part in a Remembrance Day parade to Christ Church, Isle of Dogs, where they laid wreaths.

Scout Leader Kay Leggett said: “It is the only time of year they will parade in full colours and marks a very special time for the young people as they reflect on the sacrifices of our armed forces.”
