Traders are being urged to join in a clampdown on youngsters buying cigarettes and alcohol.
A best practice agreement drawn up by Tower Hamlets Council is being sent to shopkeepers in a bid to tackle underage sales of restricted items.
Part of the scheme will see business-owners given training on how to spot those youngsters who are trying to pull a fast one.
Deputy Mayor Cllr Ohid Ahmed said: “This scheme is intended to complement enforcement action, to help build relationships with local business and to provide training that will reduce underage sales at the point of sale.”
Those traders who do sign up to the pact will be expected to keep a log of sales they refuse on the grounds that they believe the buyer is underage.
