A 32-year-old cyclist is in “very serious” condition in hospital after a collision involving a bicycle and a lorry yesterday morning (Monday, October 29) in Bethnal Green.
The incident happened near the railway bridge in Bethnal Green Road just after 6.40am, and the road was closed by police for several hours, which resulted in traffic gridlock for rush-hour commuters.
A London Ambulance Service spokesman told the Advertiser: “We sent an ambulance crew and a single responder in a car to the scene.
“Our staff treated a 32-year-old man for a serious pelvic injury and took the patient as a priority to the Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel.”
A Tower Hamlets Police spokesman told the Advertiser the injuries were “very serious” and added the cyclist’s next of kin have been informed via the Greek embassy.
