Greenpeace protesters targeted a garage in Whitechapel Road to call for Shell to stop drilling for oil in the Arctic.
Activists, including one wilting in the sun in a polar bear costume, were aiming to raise awareness of their campaign to put pressure on the oil giant to help protect the region.
Jo Ram, a protester from Hackney, said: “The Arctic is a fragile and beautiful place. An oil spill there would be catastrophic. We really hope that folks will help to save the Arctic.”
The organisation claims that Shell is the first of the major oil companies to take steps to exploit the Arctic’s reserves.
