A project aimed at injecting new life into the East End ahead of next month’s Olympics is culminating in a three day festival, which will see giant insect parading on wheels.
The High Street 2012 Summer Safari, starting on Thursday, will see all 17 projects which received funding, as part of the High Street 2012’s heritage, culture and community programme, taking part. Organisations from across the East End were given grants for projects celebrating the culture and history around the High Street 2012 route. The route connecting London’s East End with the Olympic Park in Stratford runs from Aldgate East through Whitechapel, Mile End and Bow.
A series of exhibitions will be put on to show off art work produced as part of the programme, along with walks and other events.
Coinciding with the event street performers dressed as giant insects, accompanied by music and special effects, will also parade from Roman Road to Lefevre Park at 9.45pm on Saturday.
The performance by Sarruga, a company from Catalan in Spain, is part of the Greenwich and Docklands International Festival.
