Monday’s biggest party was to be found in Mile End Park, where hundreds of revellers turned out to join the festivities.
There was a vast array of attractions on offer, including fair-ground rides, face-painting, and a Punch and Judy show.
Children and adults alike refused to be perturbed by the afternoon’s intermittent showers and soggy ground underfoot as they made the most of the entertainment laid on by the council.
In the evening, the park played host to Mayor or Tower Hamlets Lutfur Rahman lit one of the four thousand beacons dotted around the UK in celebration of the Jubilee.
