The Tower of London last night saw off competition from across the capital to scoop two property awards for its largest ever conservation project.
Projects from across the capital and property industry showcased their talents at the 2012 RICS London Awards at Greenwich Maritime Museum last week.
The Tower won top prizes for the �2million restoration of its White Tower, dating back to the 9th century.
The tree-year project was undertaken by Historic Royal Palaces, who were commended for the work on the repair and conservation of the White Tower, which saw the Tower wining both the Project of the Year tile and Building Conservation Award.
London regional judge, Tony Suttill, said: The White Tower has been the centrepiece of the Tower for nearly a thousand years and, following the most carefully researched and beautifully executed restoration, it’s probably good for another thousand.”
Among other projects to pick up awards in the London wide competition was
Central Saint Martins, which won the Regeneration Award for the conversion of a Grade II listed railway sheds into a modern art university campus.
