Jacqueline Lythe is replacing her much-loved high heels for trainers when she runs the London Marathon for the first time.

The 25-year-old teacher from Shadwell’s Bluegate Fields Junior School in London’s East End is raising 1,500 for Alzheimer’s Research UK on April 22.

She is spurred on by thoughts of her grandma Ann who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at 69.

“That was 10 years ago,” Jacqueline said. “My granddad looks after her with help of family and carers—but it’s a 24-hour job that puts a huge strain on everyone.

“So many people are struggling like this. I want to raise money for research into new treatments.”

Jacqueline ran the Silverstone Half Marathon as a warm up—she’d never even run for a bus before that!

“It’s unheard of for me to wear flat shoes,” she admits. “But my grandma is my inspiration. I just wish there were new treatments for Alzheimer’s to help her now.”

Pupils at Bluegate Primary will doubtless be cheering her on. The Marathon route runs along The Highway through Shadwell—almost passing the school gates in King David Lane.
