A troupe of all-female morris dancers will help ‘ring’ in St George’s Day in Tower Hamlets.

Live music and children’s shows also number among the free attractions organised by the council.

Six-piece band The Sunshine Kings will perform hits from the 1930s and 1940s at an afternoon tea dance for the over-50s on Monday April 18. The dance will take place at the Brady Arts and Community Centre on Hanbury Street, Whitechapel from 2pm.

And morris dancing troupe the Belles of London City will join the Becontree Brass Band to entertain families in the Museum of Childhood, Bethnal Green on St George’s Day, Saturday April 23.

The ‘family day’ will give children a chance to make flags and bunting for the upcoming royal wedding, and will include a Punch and Judy show. Entertainment starts at 11.30am.

Entry is free but the tea dance must be booked in advance by calling 020 7364 7916 or e-mailing festivalsandevents@towerhamlets.gov.uk.
