THE future of East London’s huge Olympics site after the 2012 Games is being debated by the London Assembly tomorrow (Tues).
Members want to know what effect the Stadium and structures like the huge media centre will have afterwards on East London, especially for jobs.
A long-term tenant for the Stadium is expected to be announced early next year, with suggestions such as a football home’ for East London clubs like West Ham or Leyton Orient. The future of the 800,000sq ft Media centre at Hackney Wick is less clear.
The London Assembly’s Economic Development committee is to question regeneration consultant Danny Meaney, Sheffield Hallam University sports industry lecturer Dr Larissa Davies, economic development expert Dr Jim Coleman and Milton Keynes FC’s Pete Winkelman.
It is the first of two sessions looking at Olympic Park venues and part of the Assembly’s ongoing scrutiny of the preparations and their legacy.
Tomorrow morning’s public session at City Hall, near Tower Bridge, can be followed live on the London Assembly’s webcast from 10am.
