RESIDENTS are being urged to get green during Recycling Week and avoid throwing their old TVs and computers in their waste bins.
Tower Hamlets council is placing special recycle bins at some of the borough's schools and housing estates specifically for electrical goods.
Meanwhile residents are being encouraged to take their items to Northumberland Wharf Recycling Centre on the Isle of Dogs where the electrical goods are collected and then taken to a sorting centre in Birmingham where they are recuperated.
According to recycling chiefs around 30 tonnes of electrical items are collected at Northumberland Wharf each month which equates to 100 televisions.
Northumberland Wharf Recycling Centre in Yabsley Street is open Monday to Friday between 8am and 8pm, Saturday and Sunday between 9am and 6pm, and Bank holidays between 9am and 4.30pm.
