AN INQUEST has opened and adjourned into the death of a man who drowned in an east London dock after he had gone in the water for a swim.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, was with friends on Saturday afternoon when he went into the water at Shadwell Basin.
Police were called at 2.50pm after the man disappeared under the water and despite an extensive operation by diving teams his body was not discovered until 6.15pm.
The death is being treated as unexplained at this stage and a post-mortem examination will be carried out later this week.
