TAKEAWAYS are to be given a makeover as part of a fat-busting scheme in Tower Hamlets.
As part of Tower Hamlets council's Healthy Borough Programme, takeaway owners from Bethnal Green, Stepney, Spitalfields and Limehouse attended a free healthier frying workshop on March 31.
Cooks were taught the benefits of frying thicker chips so that they absorb less oil, and to grill or bake food as an alternative to frying.
Dr Ian Basnett, Director of Public Health for NHS Tower Hamlets said: "The great thing about this work is that it takes a practical approach to helping people eat a healthier diet.
"Demonstrating healthier ways to cook to restaurants is a realistic way of helping people to reduce their saturated fat intake.
