POLICE officers in Tower Hamlets say they made the UK's first arrest for possession of mephedrone just 15 minutes after legislation banning the drug came into force on Friday last week.
Officers from Spitalfields and Banglatown safer neighbourhood team arrested an 18-year-old man in Thrawl Street, Whitechapel on suspicion of possession of the newly banned drug just minutes after the legislation came into effect at midnight.
He has been released on police bail pending analysis of the suspected drug.
