BORIS Johnson met a delegation from the Bengali community lobbying for their cohesion’ projects in London’s East End.
He held talks with members of the Bengali Welfare Association and the Island Neighbourhood Project from the Isle of Dogs, one of the capital’s most socially deprived areas.
The Mayor listened to their ideas on improving dialogue with Bengali organisations and promised to take up their offer to visit the Isle of Dogs to see the projects for himself.
The Bengali association runs educational and recreational projects as well as helping families get the most from public services, particularly among Bengali woman and pensioners.
The delegation was organised by Tower Hamlets Deputy Tory Opposition leader Tim Archer and ethnic leaders to highlight cohesion projects in this corner of inner London struggling with poverty, crime and social isolation.
