LABOUR housing chief Marc Francis is "disappointed" fellow councillors did not support him and residents in making sure a controversial take-away given the go-ahead near a school meet certain requirements.
The change of use for the premises, on Shadwell's Cable Street, from a shop to a take-away, were approved last year despite objections from residents, Cllr Francis and MP Jim Fitzpatrick.
Cllr Francis told last week's Development Committee meeting at Tower Hamlets Town Hall that he realised the plans before councillors was not a chance for a "re-run" of the original decision to approve the take-away near Bishop Challenor school.
But said: "Anyone who has seen the long queues of teenagers queuing up for fried chicken and chips after school will be in little doubt it's one of the major causes of obesity."
He then pointed out that under the latest plans refuse bins will be at the front of the take-away instead of the bike parking originally promised. He also said the design of the extract flue had changed and feared residents would suffer from its noise and people lingering outside.
But the committee agreed to do away with the original planning conditions.
Cllr Frances said: "I'm disappointed fellow councillors were not persuaded by the arguments of my self and residents.
