FOUR patients at the Royal London Hospital have caught the winter vomiting bug it emerged this evening, with staff having to close part of a ward to stop the infection from spreading.
The patients on the neurological ward at the hospital in Whitechapel are battling with the norovirus which is sweeping the capital and three more are suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting.
Bosses have decided against closing the ward but another bay on a neighbouring adult ward has been closed since yesterday because one patient is also suffering with diarrhoea and vomiting which are the symptoms of the stomach bug.
A hospital spokesman said: "The neurological ward has not been closed as there is a clinical need to keep it open and these patients often suffer with diarrhoea because of the drugs that they take.
"Visiting on these wards has been restricted.
