FAMILIES who’ve had to put up with the world’s biggest building site on their doorstep for two years got a sneak preview on Saturday of what all the fuss is about.
The 2012 Olympics authority invited them to look round the shell of the massive International Media centre going up at Hackney Wick in East London, one of the major structures of the huge Olympics Park development.
The 150 residents of Leabank Square who have been living cheek-by-jowl with months of excavations, soil cleaning machines and pile drilling finally got to see inside the 750ft-long media centre that now overshadows their neighbourhood.
Olympics chief David Higgins said: “We work hard to be a good neighbour by minimising the impact of construction. It’s great the residents stole a march to get the first look inside the media centre to see first hand where the story of the 2012 London Games will broadcast to billions around the world.”
The centre is to house 20,000 broadcasters, commentators, photographers and journalists covering the London Games to a worldwide audience of four billion.
