AN EYE expert will be speaking at the London Muslim Centre to raise awareness of a sight disorder which can affect people's vision and is more likely to affect the Asian population.
Robert Henderson who is senior registrar at Moorfields Eye Hospital will be talking about Retinitis Pigmentosa, a series of inherited disorders which affect the retina, which is the light sensitive lining at the back of the eye.
The event starts at 4.30pm on Saturday at the centre on Whitechapel Road and will draw attention to the condition which affects one in 3,000 people. Asian families in the UK are seven times more likely to be affected than the general population.
Initial symptoms include difficulties seeing at night and loss of peripheral vision as well as reading vision and colour vision are affected. It can affect people at any age and sight degradation can take years.
There is currently no cure for the condition but the charity RP Fighting Blindness is working to raise awareness of the condition.
