A LONDON bus doubled up as a maternity delivery room when a baby boy couldn't wait to enter the world.

Emiloju Lawal was travelling to Homerton Hospital in East London after she went into Labour, but didn't quite make it.

Little Olacidebe Dennis Agbwla was born at 9am last Thursday, October 22, on route 394 in Hackney, weighing in at a healthy 7lb 7oz.

Driver Pauline Jacobs (pictured holding the baby) and passenger Carole Allen were on the 394 single-decker to give help.

Pauline pulled the bus over in Amhurst Road where Olacidebe was born just minutes later. The ambulance arrived shortly afterwards to find mother and baby both doing well.

"I had noticed something was not right in the night," said proud mum-of-four Emiloju later (pictured right).

"I called the hospital who advised me to come in. I wasn't in any pain and the baby wasn't due for another five days-or so I thought.

"I certainly didn't expect to be giving birth on the bus!"

The bus is manufacturered by Dennis coachbuilders, so Emiloju thought it fitting to give her third son 'Dennis' as a middle name.

Pauline, who has been driving London buses for six years, said: "It was all a bit overwhelming. I never expected a live birth on the 394!"

Passenger Carole Allen, who was also heading to Homerton Hospital where she works, said: "It all happened so quickly. I picked the baby up, wrapped him in his mother's headscarf and laid him on her chest as the ambulance arrived."

Staff at Hackney's Ash Grove bus depot were all delighted they made a collection and presented mum with a card and vouchers.
