A NEW housing advice surgery is being opened in London's East End to help those facing crises including repossession and unlawful evictions.
The weekly session is being set up by the national homelessness charity Shelter with specialist advisors offering free advice and legal advocacy in East London.
Issues include rent and mortgage arrears, housing benefit problems, unlawful eviction, disrepair and finding a home.
Shelter's London Service manager David Saltson said: "We estimate 65,000 people are facing repossession this year and thousands more are trapped in housing that is damp, overcrowded or in disrepair.
"We want to help them overcome these issues and get decent homes."
The surgery opens each Tuesday between 1.30 and 4.30pm at the Poplar Children's Centre at 23-37 Market Way, Chrisp Street, off East India Dock Road. Appointments can be made by phone on 0344-515 2222.
