THE family of 16-year-old Ahmed Benyermak, who fell to his death from an East London tower block running from a group of youths, have joined detectives in renewing their appeal for witness on the first anniversary of the tragedy.
He plunged 70ft to his death at Hackney's Trelawney Estate trying to flee, after being separated from his school friends on the day he was due to collect his GCSE results on August 20 last year.
The friends were on the 13th floor when they spotted the youths heading towards them.
Ahmed tried to climb down the outside of the building to get away when he lost his grip and fell from the seventh floor. His death is being treated as unlawful killing.
Det Chief Ins Phil Rickells said: "We believe there are still people with vital information on the events that led to Ahmed falling to his death.
"I urge these people to contact us in confidence and talk over what they may have seen, or what they know or have heard, no matter how insignificant."
Detectives are appealing to anyone with information to call the incident room on 020-8345 1570, or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 08000-555111.
Six youths have been arrested in connection with Ahmed's death, all bailed to return in November pending further enquiries.
