BORIS Johnson fired the first shots today in his bike revolution with plans for two cycle super highways’ across London.
The mayor wants safe corridors’ for cyclists to reach the City centre from the outer suburbs.
Two pilot routes to start in May next year were unveiled at City Hall today (Friday) as the first of a network of 12 that will span London in time for the 2012 Olympics.

“I'm not kidding when I say I’m militant about cycling,” said Boris.
“These super highways’ are part of the cycling revolution I’m determined to bring about.
“No longer will pedal power’ have to dance and dodge around petrol power’.”
One pilot route starting next May runs through East London from Barking to Tower Hill along the A13 East India Dock Road and through Cable Street in Shadwell, the other running from South Wimbledon to Bank along the A24 and A3.
Another 10 routes are being mapped out across London in the run-up to the Olympics being staged in East London, each covering between seven and 10 miles.
