INVESTIGATORS are appealing for witnesses after a man of 72 was killed in East London in a road accident involving a police car on a 999 emergency call.
Pensioner Brian Elton was crossing The Ridgeway in Chingford at 1pm on Saturday when he was hit.
The police Vauxhall Astra was answering an emergency call, Scotland Yard confirmed this evening.
Mr Elton was taken by ambulance to The Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel, but died four hours later. Next of kin were later informed. He came from Chingford..
Investigators are appealing who was in The Ridgeway at about 1pm on June 20 to contact THE Met Police Directorate of Professional Standards on 020-8785 8738.
