FIVE big High Street store giants have signed up to Boris Johnson’s Open London’ pledge to let the public use their loos without making a purchase.
It means spending a penny’ without having to spend a penny for anyone caught short.
Boris made a commitment to improve the comforts of Londoners and tourists when he ran for office as Mayor last year, hoping to tackle a 40 per cent decline in public toilets since 1999.
City Hall announced today that Tesco, John Lewis, Sainsbury’s, Borders and Marks & Spencer have become the first companies to sign up to his Open London’ pledge over toilet access.
One store manager, Richard Newman, said: “Visitors to our stores don’t have to pay a pound to spend a penny.”
The big supermarkets are trying to prove they are really convenience’ stores.
