SQUATTERS are marching on Spitalfields this afternoon to highlight the plight of housing and the loss of open spaces ahead this week's G20 summit.
Activists from Whitechapel's RampArt and Shoreditch's Bowl Court squatted social centres will meet on Shoreditch High Street at 3.30pm before marching to Spitalfields Market in Commercial Street to demonstrate against property developer Hammerson, which owns the famous market.
The squatters' collective is lamenting the loss of the diverse and vibrant community which it says no longer exists after Hammerson's redevelopment and has accused the corporation of causing the encroachment of the City onto the East End.
Squatters will also be protesting at the Bank of England tomorrow along with the thousands of other demonstrators who are expected to march on the City ahead of the G20.
