A CRACKDOWN on parking fraud has led to the seizure of 90 windscreen badges used by motorists pretending they're disabled to evade 'yellow line' restrictions.

Many of the dodgy badges were found to be fake or stolen.

Now London Councils, which represents all 33 local authorities, is expanding its 'Blue Badge' database to cover the whole capital following the success of its nine-month 'pilot' in five boroughs.

The boroughs where the database scheme was tested included Tower Hamlets in East London, one of the first authorities to launch a crackdown on windscreen badge fraud three years ago.

Now the nine-month pilot scheme to pool information on 12,000 badges reported lost or stolen is being introduced to all 33 London authorities.

Previously, each town hall kept its own records, but was unable to check details on Blue Badges displayed on windscreens which had been issued elsewhere.
