Orient boss unhappy with penalty decisions as the dismal away record continues

ORIENT boss Russell Slade admitted it was as night of frustration as he watched his side let a 2-0 lead slip at Colchester on Tuesday night.

Looking to record their first away win in the league since January, Alex Revell struck twice in the opening 17 minutes against the League One high flyers, but Colchester came back to win the game.

“It’s been a really frustrating night, because we got ourselves in a great position and we have blown it to a certain extent,” reflected the O’s boss.

“We wanted to go into Saturday’s match against Dagenham with our recent good run intact, but we have got to learn from the experience and learn how to win a football match away from home.

“We know how to do it at home, as we have shown recently against Hartlepool and Rochdale.”

Slade insisted the away form is not down to a lack of effort: “It’s not through a lack of trying, we were still going forward at the end and we finished the stronger side in many ways,” he said.

Slade was unhappy with Colchester’s equaliser, which came from the penalty spot.

“It was a free-kick, but the tackle was outside the box and I’ll be seeing the referee afterwards,” explained the Orient boss.

“But for me, we had a stonewall penalty turned down for a foul on Adam Chambers in the second half, we’re disappointed with that and decisions can change football matches.

“Overall I thought the result was unjust and a little unfair and Adam Chambers went close with a great effort in stoppage time and if there was any justice that would have gone in.”
