A three-year programme to regenerate a run-down neighbourhood in London’s East End has just been completed at £220 million.

It has involved modernising social housing and building new homes at Stepney Green in a programme run jointly by the GLA, Tower Hamlets council, East Thames Housing and contractors Bellway Homes.

One of the largest new housing developments in the area is the Vivo complex with a mix of 462 social rented, shared ownership and freehold properties, completed last month, which won ‘best apartment building’ title in the 2013 Sunday Times British Homes awards.

Another 250 new homes have also been completed at the So Stepney development by East Thames and Bellway Homes, which are now working on a planning submission for another development in the area for 220 homes, likely to begin later this year.
